Pregnancy Third trimester

False labor

False labour refers to contractions or other labour-like sensations that feel convincing but do not cause the progressive cervical changes needed for birth. Contractions may be uncomfortable, come somewhat regularly for a while, and then slow down or stop on their own. Unlike true labour, they tend to ease with a warm bath, rest, or a change of activity. False labour is very common in the weeks before your due date and does not mean anything is wrong. It can be frustrating, especially for first-time parents, but it is your body gradually preparing for the real event.

What This Means for You

Understanding False labor is an important part of your third trimester journey. During pregnancy, your care team will use this term regularly. Being familiar with it means you can ask better questions and feel more confident at your antenatal appointments.
