Full family meals. Offer the same food as the family with less salt and no spicy. Begin practising with a spoon independently (messy but developmental!). Aim for variety across all food groups.

Play & Activity Ideas

  • Painting with fingers (washable, non-toxic paint)
  • Cause-and-effect toys: push buttons, pop-ups
  • Read and point to pictures - "Where is the dog?"
  • Sand and water play if possible

When to Consult Your Paediatrician

If your baby is NOT doing any of the following, speak to your doctor - Early intervention is key:

  • Not standing while holding on to something
  • Not using any words
  • Not searching for hidden objects
  • Not pointing to things

Singapore-Specific Advice

Start thinking about the transition to toddler-appropriate milk or whole cow's milk after 12 months (consult your paediatrician). In Singapore, most parents continue breastfeeding past 12 months alongside family foods, which is recommended by WHO to 2 years.

Remember: Every baby develops at their own pace. These milestones are general guides based on WHO standards. Always consult your paediatrician, polyclinic, or family doctor if you have any concerns about your baby's development.
