Parenting After birth

Postpartum

Postpartum refers to the period after childbirth, typically the first 6 to 12 weeks, during which your body heals and adjusts after delivery. Physically, your uterus shrinks back to its normal size, hormone levels drop sharply, and wounds from a vaginal tear or caesarean incision heal. Emotionally, the sudden shift in hormones can trigger baby blues or, in some cases, postpartum depression. Beyond the physical recovery, this period also involves learning to feed, soothe, and bond with your newborn. Rest, adequate nutrition, and support from family or a confinement helper can make a real difference to your recovery.

What This Means for You

Understanding Postpartum is an important part of your after birth journey. Keeping this in mind as you read, attend appointments, and connect with other parents will help you feel more prepared and less overwhelmed.
