Same surname as a common word — avoiding awkward name combos
Our surname is Tan. Every name combination sounds like something. We almost named our son Marcus Tan (Marcus Tan... too close to 'market tan'). Now pregnant with number 2 and going through the same agony. Any other parents with very common Chinese surnames (Tan, Lee, Lim, Ng, Koh) who've had to navigate this? How did you test your name combos? We're now saying them fast, saying them with a Singlish accent, and imagining a teacher calling attendance. What's your method?
