MIL insisting on confinement rules I don't believe in

She means well, I know she does. But she wants me to wear socks at all times, not shower for a week, and not leave the house for a month. I'm doing modified confinement — showering, walking around — and she acts like I'm harming myself. How do you respect tradition while still making your own choices?
