How Do I Apply for the Baby Bonus in Singapore?
Step-by-step guide to applying for the Baby Bonus through LifeSG, choosing your CDA bank, and understanding the payment timeline.
LifeSG App vs Baby Bonus Online Portal
You can apply for the Baby Bonus in two ways. Both lead to the same outcome, but the LifeSG app is now the preferred and fastest method.
LifeSG App (Recommended)
- Download LifeSG from the App Store or Google Play
- Log in with your Singpass
- Navigate to "Baby Bonus" under Families
- Complete the application in under 10 minutes
- Documents can be uploaded directly from your phone
Baby Bonus Online Portal
- Access via go.gov.sg/babybonus
- Log in with Singpass
- Suitable if you prefer a desktop experience
- Same processing time as the app
For Singapore hospital births: If your baby is born at KKH, NUH, SGH, or other restructured hospitals, birth registration and Baby Bonus application may be partially pre-filled through the hospital's integrated registration system. Ask the hospital's birth registration counter about this.
What You Need to Apply
Gather these before starting your application. Most information is auto-populated via Singpass for Singapore Citizens and PRs.
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Your Singpass login | Required for all government digital services |
| Baby's birth certificate number | Register birth at hospital within 14 days of birth before applying |
| Your bank account details | For cash gift disbursement (any Singapore bank account) |
| Choice of CDA bank | DBS, OCBC, or UOB (choose one) |
| NRIC numbers of both parents | For means assessment and record linkage |
If the child is born to parents who are not married, or in certain PR or EP holder situations, additional documents may be needed. Contact MSF or the Baby Bonus helpline at 1800-111-2222 for specific cases.
Choosing Your CDA Bank
You must choose one of three banks to hold your child's Child Development Account: DBS, OCBC, or UOB. The bank you choose affects how you deposit money and how you access it, but all three banks offer the same government matching mechanism.
| Bank | CDA Card/Access | Notable Feature |
|---|---|---|
| DBS | CDA debit card issued | Integrated with DBS PayLah for easy top-ups; CDA Extra option available |
| OCBC | CDA debit card issued | CDA Extra investment option (invest portion of CDA for higher returns) |
| UOB | CDA debit card issued | Suitable if your main banking is with UOB for easy fund transfers |
You cannot change your CDA bank after selection, so choose the bank you are most comfortable with. OCBC's CDA Extra option allows you to invest a portion of the CDA balance in unit trusts, potentially growing the funds before your child needs them for childcare or healthcare.
Application Timeline and When You Receive Cash
The Baby Bonus application should be completed within 30 days of your baby's birth for the most seamless experience. Late registration is possible but may delay your first disbursement.
