Income Tax Reliefs for Parents

Several IRAS tax reliefs significantly reduce your income tax bill in the year of your child's birth and beyond. These are claimed when you file your annual income tax return.

Relief Type Amount Notes
Qualifying Child Relief (QCR)S$4,000 per childFor SC and PR children; claimed by one parent
Handicapped Child Relief (HCR)S$7,500 per childFor physically or mentally handicapped children; replaces QCR
Working Mother's Child Relief (WMCR)15% to 25% of earned income per childMother must be Singapore tax resident; 15% for 1st child, 20% for 2nd, 25% for 3rd+. Capped at S$50,000 per child
Parenthood Tax Rebate (PTR)S$5,000 (1st child) to S$20,000 (3rd+)One-time rebate, used to offset tax payable; split between parents

The Working Mother's Child Relief and QCR cannot be claimed simultaneously (one or the other per child, per parent). Most working mothers claim WMCR as it typically provides a larger relief. Consult your tax filing or the IRAS website for your specific situation.
